If you use Norton App Lock today

Norton states that the app “may continue to work”, but it no longer receives support or product updates. Norton also states that if you uninstall it, “you won’t be able to reinstall it”, and that there is no replacement. [1]

Before you switch to any other app lock, open each locked app once and check that you can still sign in to it. Then choose a replacement. That could be another app lock, or a feature built into your phone, such as Private Space on Android 15 and later. The comparison of app locks, Private Space and Secure Folder explains the difference.

Where Applore is different

  • Still on Google Play and maintained. As of 15 September 2026, Applore Free and Applore Pro are both listed on Google Play. Applore works on Android 8.0 and up.
  • Usage access by default, accessibility only if you choose. App Lock notices when a locked app opens through Android’s usage access. You can turn on the optional accessibility service so the lock screen appears faster. App Lock uses only the name of the app in the foreground.
  • More than an app lock. The same app includes a Password Vault with autofill, a file manager, contact tools and free safety tools. The safety tools include Needs your review, a check for known stalkerware that can miss things (see the limits below). With Pro, Advance Lock can keep Settings and the Play Store behind your lock and protect Applore from being uninstalled by someone else.

Where Norton App Lock is different

  • Short setup. Norton’s guide describes setting one 4-digit passcode or swiping a pattern, and that one code unlocks all protected apps. [2]
  • Suggested apps to lock. Norton’s guide states that you choose apps from a “Recommended” section and an “Other Apps” section. [2]
  • Existing installs can keep running. Norton states that the app may continue to work on phones where it is already installed, so current users do not have to switch straight away. [1]

Privacy and permissions

Norton App Lock. The app is no longer listed on Google Play, so there is no current Data safety section to quote. The Norton pages checked do not describe the permissions it uses.

Applore. Its Google Play Data safety section, checked on 15 September 2026, says: [3]

  • Shared: device or other IDs, for app functionality and analytics.
  • Collected: app interactions, for app functionality.
  • Security: data is encrypted in transit, and you can request that data be deleted.

For App Lock, your lock settings, PIN and pattern stay on your phone. If you forget your PIN, you recover it on your phone with the Google account you signed in with. Protect from uninstall uses Android’s device admin permission, and you can turn it off at any time in Settings.
